Dubia roaches are resilient creatures but that doesn’t mean we can do the bare minimum when it comes to care. A healthy Dubia a day keeps the veterinarian away!

MAKING THE SIN BIN
- 27-gallon [108 qt] professional-grade storage box (from Costco)
*10 gallons [40 qt] is sufficient, the larger size was just my preference. - Biodegradable pulp fiber egg flats
- Standard window screen or woven wire mesh metal screen
- 25 ct Black Buffalo Beetles (cleaner beetles)*
- Thermometer
- Under tank heater
- Guerrilla Tape
- Hot glue gun
- Small plastic bowls or reptile bowls
MAKE IT BIO-ACTIVE
A self-sustainable Dubia roach colony is an incredibly enticing prospect.
- Black Buffalo Beetles (cleaner beetles), Isopods & springtails are your options
- Substrates like Zoo Med Eco Earth loose coconut fiber substrate
- Cork bark flats
- Leaf litter
PREP THE BIN
Cut a shape into the lid. Have fun with it!
Cut the appropriate shape out of your screen to cover the hole in the lid.
Adhere your under-tank heater to the side of your bin
Find a good place to adhere the thermometer/hygrometer near the UTH.
Lay substrate, cork flats, and leaf litter.
Release the beetles.
Organize your egg crate how you like.
Leave some food out for your dubias.
Release the Dubias! [1:4 male: female ratio]
“DOOBIE MIX“
We should all strive to provide the best possible care for all the living things in our charge.
Even the feeder insects.
Having said that, I’m not claiming that this recipe will do anything but feed your roaches. I gut load with these specific products simply because they’re what I would like my beardies to absorb.
- Ground flax meal
- Ground up old-fashioned oats.
- Valencia orange peel
- California lemon peel
- Bee pollen
- Spirulina powder
- Sunflower seeds
- Dried seaweed
If this is too much work, you can always purchase a pre-made mix.

- Use Fluker’s Orange Cube Complete Cricket Diet or water crystals for regular hydration
- Oranges, apples, and bananas

- Plantain Chips
- Beans (powdered)
- Any veggie/fruit scraps that are safe for bearded dragons to eat
